Typography & Lettering

Lettering and typography are two of my greatest strengths that help me create bold designs that integrate with logos and graphics for strong compositions and cohesive designs. This is especially important in branding and identity work, which are one of my areas of specialty. Below you will find print, digital, hand-drawn, and chalkboard work (towards the bottom).

I’ve developed my own definition of this type of design as letters and words that I have modified significantly in a playful or appealing way by hand and/or by computer. Usually the design begins on paper, and sometimes it is fully developed on paper and then scanned and digitally edited.

Most of these graphics are characterized by the lettering creating a notable graphic itself rather than a paragraph being included as type in layout. You will find some of these projects in my freelance page as well.

Lettering was one of my first loves in the art world. As someone who struggled with dyslexia, I can look back and see that my mind developing an understanding of shapes and shape relationships with negative space was very helpful in learning to read and then learning to spell and draw letters. The unintentional benefit of that is that it taught me to think about letter anatomy and play with it in my mind and on paper, and that has always been something I enjoy.
